“Hopefully people will find it [playing the game] fun and learn new information.” James, Games for Good Co-Designer
Our Games for Good program is doing something game changing. We are creating helpful and fun learning games for and with people with intellectual disability to develop digital skills, confidence and online safety awareness.
We are working with people with intellectual disability to help us create the concepts for an online learning game based on their team’s topic, online relationships or online financial safety.
One of our Games for Good Co-Designers is James, who is in the online relationships team. Over the past few months, Good Things has been working with James and his team in online co-design sessions to talk about what the game could look like.
“I am delighted that Google.org is funding this type of program to help people with disability build their online ‘spidy sense’. Also assisting Disability Support Workers is great. This is something I haven’t heard of before.” Michelle, James’ mum
When Good Things first met with James, he told us he loves games, but had not been involved in co-design before. He said he wanted to bring his support worker to the first co-design session so he could “see how it goes”.
But on the day of our first co-design session with James, he attended the session by himself.
“James is very excited about today and wants to be online by himself, so I just thought I’d sneak in this message to say thanks for making him feel comfortable!” Michelle, James’ mum

The Games for Good program is helping us create fun and engaging tools and resources that support people with intellectual disability to make safer online friendships, shop and manage money online, and use the internet with more confidence.
“James has loved Games for Good! He has said he would love to do more. Games for Good has made such a difference to his self-confidence and he looks forward to it all week!” Michelle, James’ mum
Good Things would like to thank Google.org for their support of this program.
Stay tuned for more Games for Good updates! We’re excited to share what we learn with the world.
