Submission:  Inquiry into the use and governance of Artificial Intelligence systems by public sector entities

In October 2024, Good Things Australia provided the Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit with feedback on the terms of reference for their inquiry into the use and governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems by public sector entities.

Based on our research on the intersection of AI literacy and digital inclusion through our Digital Sisters program, representative of a broad range of sectors, we provided the Joint Committee with three key recommendations.

Our recommendations

  1. The Public Sector assesses and identifies gaps in digital skills and digital literacy levels across its workforce.
  2. The Public Sector introduces digital skills, digital literacy and AI literacy training to complement the adoption of AI technologies.
  3. The Public Sector establishes workforce specific regulations, policies and user protections around the implementation and use of AI technologies.
