55 organisations selected to be part of the Digital Sisters program

See the full list of organisations that will participate in the Digital Sisters programs to continue supporting refugee and migrant women in feeling confident with technology.

Our Digital Sisters program supports refugee and migrant women in learning essential digital skills, empowering them as they settle in Australia. This program is managed by Good Things Australia in partnership with 55 community organisations and is funded by the Department of Social Services. Check out their media release.

In the pilot of the program, more than 1000 women were supported and more than 40 bi-lingual Digital Mentors were trained. Some of the highlights of the Digital Sisters pilot include:

  • 95% of women reported feeling more confident using technology.
  • 75% reported increased online safety.
  • 89% reported stronger social connections.
  • 87% reported better access to digital devices.
  • 97% of participants would recommend the program to others in their community.

For this program extension, 55 organisations will receive $10,000 in funds, training for two digital mentors and free learning materials and resources to support women in their communities. The program aims to train 110 digital mentors and directly support around 5,000 women during 2024/2025.

Kie Tanaka, who took part in the Digital Sisters Pilot Program at the Yarraville Community Centre in Melbourne, shared how it transformed her life

“I am so grateful for the help I received through the Digital Sisters program. It improved my ability to get online and provided me with a greater chance to settle into Australia by finding a job.”

Other participants have also mentioned how much this program has helped them create connections with other women, make new friendships, improve their confidence in English, and find new job opportunities.

We want to thank all of the wonderful organisations that applied for a Digital Sisters grant. The interest in this program only confirms the amazing impact it has had and necessity of continuing support for refugee and migrant women to feel more confident and safer online.

We are looking forward to working together to help more migrant and refugee women keep up with technology.
