Intergenerational digital mentor training initiative kicks off

8 organisations are being supported by Good Things to train young digital mentors in our first specialised intergenerational program.

Good Things has awarded 8 organisations grant funding through the Be Connected program to train young digital mentors in our first targeted intergenerational program.

The Young Mentor Capacity Building program is a train-the-trainer initiative to support and develop digital mentors in local communities across Australia. Capacity Builders work with Good Things to inspire skilled, passionate and friendly 16 to 21 years old digital mentors to help more older people be connected.

Digital mentors help people to feel confident and safe online. They support communities to learn digital skills. Sometimes called tutors or coaches, they are at the heart of community-led digital inclusion programs.

8 organisations were selected in the latest round of our Capacity Builder program. Under this program, they receive $52,500 grant funding and a specialist pack of training resources ready to train young digital mentors who will go on to support over 50s in their community.

Each organisation also nominate a Lead Digital Mentor (trainer) who is supported by Good Things to train their staff or volunteer networks in digital mentoring essentials.

The Capacity Building grant and training program is created by Good Things Australia and available to community organisations in Australia through the Be Connected program. This is the first time a special round has been offered under this grant to harness the power of intergenerational support.

We’re looking forward to working with the new Capacity Builders and Lead Digital Mentors over the coming year to create impactful intergenerational digital skills programs across the country.

Online training held for Round 2 Capacity Builders
Lead Digital Mentors attending an online training with Good Things in April 2025, to kick start their programs.

To take part in this program, community organisations submit an online application including project plan and budget, outlining how the funds will be used and the impact it would have in their community. Applications are assessed and reviewed by our grants team in line with the grant guidelines for each round.

Congratulations to our newly funded network partners!
