Libraries are one of the first places people go when they need help filling out online forms, using government websites, dealing with scams, or meeting others at community events.
But, not all libraries have the resources to support people in the way that they need. This is where the Digital Champions come in!
Digital Champions are people with intellectual disability who share their story and support others to learn. They educate community organisations and support workers on how they can best support people with intellectual disability to be confident and safe online.
In May 2026, our graduate Digital Champions Sarah and Chris facilitated an interactive and practical workshop at the Australian Library and Information Association National Conference.
In their interactive workshop, they shared their personal stories and talked about why it is so important for people with intellectual disability to feel safe and confident online.

The Champions also shared practical tools and resources libraries can use for free to support their communities, like the Online Safety Word Search game that they co-designed.
Watch the behind the scenes video from the conference and hear from the Champions about their experience.
