Conversation starters for digital mentors

Supporting someone with a digital skills session? Use these questions as a guide to help you connect with your learner!

Use these questions as a guide to help you connect with your learner and to understand their digital skills.

  • What do you like to do in your spare time?
  • What are some things that you already do online? (Like watching Youtube videos, online banking, video calling friends and family)
  • What are some things you want to learn? (Like exploring new hobbies on Youtube, how to use a smartphone)
  • What do you think we can learn from each other?
  • How do you like to learn?
  • Is there anything that you are nervous about being online?

These are all open questions. This means they can’t be answered with a simple yes or no. The good thing is that this can better start a two way conversation between mentor and learner.

Add your own open questions to this list!

Tip: They’re even better if they relate to the digital skill you are about to start learning about.
