For some programs, grants, or services, it is not practicable for us to provide support anonymously because we must verify eligibility and meet government reporting requirements.

  • Program data: Responses to digital skills questions, confidence levels, learning goals.
  • Demographic information such as: Date of birth, gender, cultural background, language spoken at home, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status, and disability or accessibility needs.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser type, referrer, and usage analytics (via cookies and similar tools).

If you take part in certain funding programs operated by us you may need to further supply:

  • your date of birth
  • your gender
  • your ethnic group
  • your education level
  • your health details
  • your household status

We collect personal information directly from you through forms, surveys, and website interactions. Sensitive information is optional and collected only with your consent.

Why we collect your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • deliver and improve our programs and services
  • provide you with feedback and resources based on your Digital Skills Checker results
  • evaluate program outcomes and support government reporting requirements
  • communicate with you about your participation, if you choose to be contacted
  • ensure our services are inclusive and accessible for all Australians.

We will never sell your information to third parties for direct marketing purposes.

Where we store your data

We store personal information on secure servers located in Australia and, where relevant to specific systems or services, in other countries with appropriate privacy safeguards.

If we use a trusted third party service provider located outside Australia, we take reasonable steps under Australian Privacy Principles (APP) 8 (Cross-border Disclosure) to ensure that the overseas provider complies with privacy protections equivalent to the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This includes contractual obligations, security requirements, and limits on how your information can be accessed or used.

Some personal information may be accessed by Good Things Australia staff or authorised contractors working remotely from outside Australia. In these cases, the information continues to be stored on secure Australian or approved international servers.

By providing your personal information, you consent to it being stored or accessed in this way, in accordance with this Privacy Policy and Australian privacy law.

Who we share your data with

We do not share information about you with other organisations or government agencies without your permission unless it:

  • is necessary to provide you with a service that you have requested
  • is required or authorised by law
  • will prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to somebody’s health
  • is a requirement of funding we receive to provide our services.

If you sign up to an organisation to our network, your personal information will also be shared with authorised people in that organisation.

Contacting you

We or third parties acting on our behalf will only contact you using the personal information you have provided if you have provided consent to do this.

If you or your organisation wish to join our network(s), we require your consent to contact you or a nominated contact person in relation to the membership. If you choose to withhold consent at any point we retain the right to consequently refuse or cancel membership.

If you are using our websites as part of one of our funded programs, we may require your consent to contact you. This will be made clear in your funding agreement with us.

Any electronic messaging we send complies with the Spam Act 2003 and the Do Not Call Register Act 2006.

You may opt out of further contact from us at any time, though this may restrict your ability to take part in any funded programs we are running.

How we protect your Personal Information

To help protect the privacy of data and personal information we collect and hold, we maintain physical, technical and administrative safeguards. We update and test our security technology on an ongoing basis, however, sending information over the internet cannot be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Any data you send to us is at your own risk.

We train our employees about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of your information. Access to your Personal Information is restricted to employees who need it to provide benefits or services to you.
