Register for a free ‘Can you spot a scam?’ online presentation on Thursday 17 October at 3pm AEDT, hosted by the eSafety Commissioner as part of the Be Connected initiative. This 1-hr session covers: common scams, tips on how to spot them, what to do and what not to do, where to go for help. Join our free information sessions during Get Online Week. Health Consumers Queensland (HCQ) is proud to support Get Online Week, an initiative of Good Things Foundation to encourage free events across the country between 14-20 October 2024. As this coincides with National Carers Week, HCQ will host fun, user-friendly interactive information sessions for consumers and carers to discover the benefits of getting online to find helpful information, connect with key health services that are important for carers, and learn from other carers who will share their experiences and tips. Getting online to find the help you need can be daunting, but HCQ is here to help and, joined by carers from our member network, we will host 2 sessions online which carers and consumers from anywhere in Queensland are welcome to attend. HCQ will host TWO online sessions on 15 October and 16 October 10.30am to 11.30am. On October 15 we will be hosting live from Ipswich Central Library, and a community hub will link in from Tully Support Centre. If you would like to join from one of these hubs, contact the HCQ team and we can connect you with your local Get Online Week community hosts! OUR HOSTS: Chanelle Moar and Heidi Jones from HCQ will co-host the sessions with carer representatives Georgia Railton-Stewart, Carol Mock and Caroline Polak Scowcroft from HCQ’s own member network who have years of experience with the health system between them to share with helpful tips, tools, and resources. The information sessions will be fun, user-friendly and interactive to encourage all participants to ‘have-a-go’. The sessions will help attendees to: - find and access health information and resources important to them; - use online tools to connect with others; - understand their healthcare rights, and; - discover how consumers are sharing their own experiences with the health system to influence change and improve services. This Get Online Week 2024, we demystify the concept of Artificial Intelligence in this engaging presentation aimed to encourage seniors and the wider community to explore the digital world through generative AI. This presentation aims to make generative Artificial Intelligence accessible and understandable, while also showcasing how it can be used creatively. By the end of the event, you will experiment with AI tools available online, building confidence and curiosity in using technology to enhance your daily lives. Come along to see what generative AI is and how it can be used.

Plant Identification and garden design. During this event, participants will learn how to use apps to identify plants using smart phones, and devices in our sensory garden at the Neighbourhood House. We will also look at programs to help with designing gardens on YouTube and other websites. Morning tea will be provided and participants will be encouraged to engage with the Be Connected portal which will be available to access on the new laptop computer.

Join us on Monday 14th October 2024 at 10.30am for the launch of “7 days of colour 2024” morning tea, where you will receive information about the event and guides on how to use your phone or tablet to take amazing photos, plus you will learn how to upload and share your results, if you require them. If you are unable to attend, email or phone us and you will receive all the information each day by email. As a participant you will receive information each day by email with the new colour for you to photograph and some helpful tips, so you will be able to explore new and creative ways of seeing colour that is all around you! So, head outdoors to be inspired by nature or have fun finding objects in the community and around your home. Next, once you have your photos, email them back to the address below. You are welcome to join in as much or as little as you like. At the conclusion of “7 days of colour 2024”, you will be invited to a presentation morning tea on Monday 4th November 2024 at 10.30am, where all who participated, will receive a keepsake postcard containing a montage of images collected.

Connect and tea is an event that will be commence at the Jack Healy Centre in Kalamunda. The purpose of this event is to educate seniors about how to use QR codes in an active and interactive way. Participants will take short stroll around the local area and interact with the various QR codes that are available to the public. The event will be held in a scavenger hunt style where for each location there will be a corresponding clue which will lead them to the next location. At the end of the hunt we have partnered with Kalamunda Hotel to provide participants with coffee and tea as well as entertainment.
